The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
